Masters of Wine students Teresa Cedenilla and Florencia Gomez win the 2020 Lallemand Bursary
The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) and Lallemand are pleased to announce Master of Wine students Teresa Cenedilla and Florencia Gomez as the winners of the 2020 Lallemand bursary.
The bursary, first established in 2010 by Lallemand, was open to students in the Institute of Master of Wine’s study programme, who were asked to write a 1,000-word essay on the following topic set by Lallemand: “what are the key parameters to consider for bulk wine during shipment and how can it affect the quality of the wine?’”
Originally, the prize was meant for one winner only but the essays received were so qualitative that Lallemand decided to award 2 prizes this year: first place to Teresa, who is awarded a £1,500 bursary to support her MW studies and second place to Florencia, who will be receiving a £500 bursary.
Teresa Cedenilla was born and raised in Spain where she worked as an engineer before she decided to move to London after she completed a wine internationalization MBA in Madrid. In UK, she first worked for Wine Intelligence and then for Bulgheroni Family Vineyards. In 2018, Teresa moved back to Spain and joined Masaveu Family Wineries (Bodegas Fillaboa, Murua, Leda, Pagos de Araiz and Valveran), where she is currently working as the export area manager for Europe, USA and Canada.
Florencia Gomez is originally from Mendoza, Argentina and has a background in chemistry. She completed a winemaking degree in 2013, a few years after her first wine experience at Achaval-Ferrer. Florencia then chose to travel and work in several vineyards in the world, including Napa Valley, Burgundy, and Croatia, working for companies such as LVMH and Trinchero Family Estates. Florencia also worked for three years for Grupo Peñaflor, where she was responsible for multiple European markets. Florencia is now based in London and develops wine digital marketing strategies, and creates content for multiple projects around the world.
Ann Dumont, Lallemand Communication Manager, explains, “As the level of excellence was high in the essays, we are proud to award two prizes this year. Teresa showed great understanding and logical development, supported by examples and references that showed her ability to elaborate on the topic accurately to deserve the first prize. Florencia was also exceptional in her writing, and we felt that it also deserved recognition. We hope that it will encourage them for their studies as it showed that they both have excellent potential to become MWs. We thank all the students who participated, and we will continue to support them in the years to come.”
